WATCH: New Slows Video

Slows, the solo project of Wire's Matthew Simms, returns with a new album and video

Wire guitarist Matthew Simms returned to his solo Slows moniker earlier this month with a new album, his third release using the pseudonym. Above, you can check out a new video from him for an excerpt of the album, entitled A Great Big Smile From Venus.

The new record sees Simms collaborating with Matt Schulz, the drummer for Canadian quartet Holy Fuck, and consists of two extended parts. Of the partnership with Schulz, Simms says: "I asked him to send me anything, [and] not to worry how it was recorded as I was going to process and destroy it. The only advice I gave him was that the weirder it was the better. I worked very quickly, kind of imagining Matt was in the room with me, playing the drum recordings back really loud."

A Great Big Smile From Venus is out now on Deep Distance and can be purchased here. Slows plays at Oslo in London alongside Tomaga on June 28 and you can get tickets for that show here. There is also an appearance at South Records in Southend on June 30 scheduled.
