Tempa’s Dubstep Allstars series has always been good as a sort of ‘state of the nation’ address when it comes to dubstep, something that seems especially important now with the signal/noise ratio so terminally skewed. So the news that the latest is to be mixed by Antisocial Entertainment’s Silkie [pictured above] and Quest is a good thing – they’ve long been pushing a side of the genre that’s hook-driven, soulful and drenched in melody.
Dubstep Allstars Vol. 09 is set for release on 23rd July, and features a veritable raft of the duo’s own tracks which have seen release through Mala’s DEEP MEDi label over the years. It also features a fair few new productions from Swindle, a recent recruit to Antisocial and frequent collaborator with Silkie (to read more on Swindle, check out our latest electronic music column). There’s also contributions from the likes of L-Wiz, Mala himself and Mizz Beats.
"We were keen for all the people who know the sound to get something new, and people just hearing the sound to get some history," says Silkie of the choice of tracks. "It represents the vibe we like and will continue to push into the future."
Its tracklist runs as follows:
