Sunn O))) have put out a previously unreleased track called ‘Dream Canyon’ as part of a new charity compilation, Shut It Down: Benefit For The Movement For Black Lives.
The track is a demo that came out of the studio sessions for the two albums they released last year, Life Metal and Pyroclasts. It features alongside new tracks from acts such as Minority Threat, Xibalba, Misery Signals, and Modern Life Is War, with the compilation encompassing 46 songs in total.
All proceeds from the sale of Shut It Down, which is available from today (September 4) on Bandcamp to coincide with the company’s latest fee-waive day, will go to the Movement For Black Lives, which strives to end the criminalisation of Black people in the US. Full transparency for all donations will be posted.
"Like so many others I felt a rage at seeing the video of George Floyd’s death but when Minneapolis rose up, I knew we entered one of those historical movements that require all of us to do whatever we could to fight racist policing and defend black lives," said Mani Mostofi, singer of Racetraitor and organiser of the release. "This compilation is just one small contribution to that struggle.
"Nearly everyone my friends that I contacted wanted to participate in the comp, so we ended up with so many more amazing bands taking part than we anticipated. We also had engineers donating mixing and master, illustrators donating artwork, and publicists donating PR,"added Mostofi. "It was a community effort all around."
