The team behind the upcoming ‘The Ballad Of Shirley Collins’, have shared the first teaser for the film, which you can check out above.
The feature-length documentary about the English folk legend is nearing completion, more than three years after filming commenced. The film explores the influences that helped shape Collins’ career, alongside her unexpected return to the limelight.
Directors Rob Curry and Tim Plester, who also directed the award-winning Way Of The Morris, hadn’t expected Shirley to return to music when they began filming, explaining, “the film was going to be about the past and about the 30 years she had spent living without the thing she loved the most.”
But, when she returned to release Lodestar – her first album of new material since 1978 – the documentary took a turn. The filmmakers added that, “it’s been an absolute privilege to be with Shirley on this long journey back to her singing again, and along the way, the film has evolved into something we never expected.”
Following the release of Lodestar, tQ’s Luke Turner spoke to Collins for a Quietus Hour Special which you can check out here. Find out more information about the film here.
