Norwegian jazz-metal punishers Shining have released ‘I Won’t Forget’, the first single from seventh album One One One, set for US release this June through Prosthetic Records.
This upcoming LP is the closer in the Blackjazz trilogy, preceded by 2010’s critically-acclaimed Blackjazz and Live Blackjazz in 2011. This time around they’ll be offering a more succinct batch of hits. "I aimed at getting each and every song to sound the best on their own. A series of ones, which is also where the album title comes from," says Shining’s Jørgen Munkeby.
‘I Won’t Forget’ suggests great things to come, scarcely letting up on the sheer intensity and inventiveness we’ve grown accustomed to. To strike a balance between screeching yet infectious hooks and bold sonic exploration is a fine art, which they pull off with aplomb.
The video, meanwhile, builds on TV static with a sterile futuristic atmosphere, all hanging wires and human cyborgs. By the end, however – in cohesion with a gloriously chaotic and atonal racket – the familiar sci-fi scene erupts into action, as the characters appear to face dawning recognition.
Worldwide release dates for the single and album are coming soon.
