Detroit-based producer Shigeto will be releasing his third album, No Better Time Than Now, on August 19 via Ghostly International; ahead of that, we’re excited to post the first spin of album track ‘Olivia’ – have a listen below:
It’s a warm, detailed track, which brings to mind the globe-traversing sample work of Ghostly label mate Gold Panda’s Half Of Where You Live album from earlier this year. Much like GP’s work, the track takes form gradually, the strobing bass line and ringing keys coming into relief against the fuzzy tape hiss and snatches of field recordings that splay across it, making for a coruscating, repeat-inducing cut.
No Better Time Than Now follows up Shigeto’s second LP, Lineage, released last year, and comes at the tail end of a particular busy period for the erstwhile New Yorker, as he says: "2012 was a powerful year for me. I released my second LP; I played nearly 180 shows in 360 days; I made the move back home from Brooklyn, NY to Detroit, MI; a six-year relationship of mine came to an end and I made it 30 years on the planet."
He’s also running a competition for tickets and merchandise, which fans can enter by posting a statement or photo of "what there is no better time than now for them to do in their lives" with the hashtag #nobettertime on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Vine and Google+; head over to his website for full details.
