Sharon Van Etten Details New LP, ‘We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong’

The artist has chosen not to share any singles in the run-up to the album's release in May

Sharon Van Etten has a new album on the way, called We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong.

Spanning 10 tracks, much of the album was captured and engineered by Van Etten alone in her new custom-built studio in her family’s Los Angeles home. The record features the artist playing guitar, synths, piano, drum machine, wurlitzer, keys and more, backed by her regular touring band. Unlike previous albums, she has chosen not to share any singles in the period before the album’s release, and recent singles ‘Porta’ and ‘Used To It’ do not appear on the record. Above, you can watch a trailer for the album.

Speaking about the record in a statement, Van Etten said: "I wanted to approach this release differently, to engage my fans in an intentional way, in an effort to present the album as a whole body of work. These ten songs are designed to be listened to in order, at once, so that a much larger story of hope, loss, longing and resilience can be told."

Jagjaguwar will release We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong on May 6, 2022.
