PREMIERE: Sharhabil Ahmed’s ‘El Bambi’

Hear a killer cut from the great Sharhabil Ahmed, the King Of Sudanese Jazz, premiering exclusively with tQ below.

In July, Habibi Funk are releasing a new record from the great Sharhabil Ahmed, The King Of Sudanese Jazz.

It’s a title that was literally bestowed upon him when he won a competition over other Sudanese artists. Above, you can hear ‘El Bambi’, an irresistible track from the forthcoming album, which premieres exclusively with tQ.

The forthcoming album has its roots in an earlier release on Habibi Funk’s sister label Jakarta Records, in which German producer Pawcut collaborated remotely with Sudanese MC Zen-Zin.

Having heard Ahmed’s music around the same time, Zen-Zin mentioned that he and Ahmed’s son Mohammed were neighbours and had a project together, and through him introduced the label to Sharhabil Ahmed himself.

From there, they went through Ahmed’s vast discography, which required years’ worth of digging to find tracks in a good enough quality for full release.

That album, The King Of Sudanese Jazz, is released via Habibi Funk and Jakarta Records on July 10. You can pre-order it here.
