SHAPE+ Artist Sofi to Release New Album, ‘AZE’

The Latvian artist's latest release is a combination of granular synthesis and coding-produced sounds

sofi, one of the figures on the 2024/25 SHAPE+ rosters of artists, has a new album on the way, titled AZE.

Set for release via the Italian label Riforma, it will be made available digitally and in a limited run of 50 cassettes. The music featured combines granular synthesis and sounds produced via coding, and much of it is centred around improvisation.

sofi, real name Sofia Zaiceva, said the album is influenced by experiences of living between Tallinn and Helsinki, where the album was recorded, as well as Riga in her native of Latvia. Classically trained, Zaiceva’s work is largely rooted in experimental electronic music, and has seen her join the latest SHAPE+ roster of highlighted artists.

SHAPE+ is a European Union-funded platform for innovative music and audiovisual art, which supports various Europe-based artists working within electronic music each year via festival and radio appearances, as well as other ventures, across its Europe-wide network.

Riforma will release AZE on November 28, 2024.
