Lamina, one of the artists on the 2024/25 SHAPE+ roster of artists, has released a new album, Sueños Acuáticos.
Translating to ‘Aquatic Dreams’ in English, the record is built from years of field recordings from watery environments as well as caves and forests, which are digitally manipulated by the French artist, aka Clarice Calvo-Pinsolle.
“I transform these sounds much like I would sculpt in ceramics,” she explained of the album, “by adding, removing material, and imagining landscapes.”
Lamina, whose name comes from a creature in Basque folklore, draws from oral history within her work, as well as hydrofeminist and posthuman ideas. Astrida Neimanis’ book Body Of Water held particular sway over the release.
Lamina is one of 54 acts who has been spotlighted through 2024 and now into 2025 as part of the latest SHAPE+ roster of artists. SHAPE+ is a European Union and Pro Helvetia-funded platform for innovative music and audiovisual art, which supports various Europe-based artists working within electronic music each year via festival and radio appearances, as well as other ventures, across its Europe-wide network.
Sueños Acuáticos is out now via Mappa. You can stream it in full below, and get it on Bandcamp here.
