Earlier this year, Drag City released Shade Themes From Kairos, an album forged by the mighty triumvirate of Oren Ambarchi, Stephen O’Malley and Randall Dunn. It started life as the score to film-maker Alexis Destoop’s 2012 short Kairos, which follows the incredible plot of an apocalyptic time-based disaster, the Great Temporal Catastrophe, and the attempt of Larry Church, a worker for the company Collective Time Flow, who have been able to commodify time, to get hold of some raw time for himself. However, so fertile were the recording sessions, which took place in an old radio station in Kortrijk, Belgium and added crotales, a Sruti box and a mellotron to the core sonic palette of guitar and drums, that the trio headed back to Dunn’s Seattle studio to finalise the score as a fully-fledged, standalone album.
Now, we’ve kindly been given a look at a new video for one of the album’s five tracks, ‘Temporal, Eponymous’, cut together from outtakes and unused footage from the film. Take a look at that above, head to Drag City’s website to buy the record and stay tuned to the site for a feature on the album.
