Two of our favourite groups, Senyawa and Teleplasmiste are joining forces to play a show at the Church of St. Thomas the Martyr, Bristol on Thursday September 14.
Cacophonous Sarcophagus bring you a night featuring the drone, Indonesian folk and thrash metal influenced (but essentially genuinely sui generis) Senyawa. This interview with the duo from Java will hopefully give you some idea of the overwhelming and dislocating music produced by two people: Wukir Suryadi on bambuwukir, or self-built harp and Rully Shabara Herman on vocals.
They will be backed by another duo, Teleplasmiste – made up of Strange Attractor boss Mark Pilkington and pipes man extraordinaire, Mike York (Coil/Cyclobe) – whose album Frequency Is The New Ecstasy is out now on House Of Mythology and riding high in our albums of the year so far chart.
Another recent addition to the bill is Harraga, a band formed this year in Bristol by Miguel Prado (Nzʉmbe) and Dali de Saint Paul (DSC, EP / 64) and exist to "honour those who burn the border & keep indelible marks, glossolalia and xenoglossia… [the] diaspora of the future". And John Doran who will play some records made by other people.
Tickets are £5, £7 or £10 and available from The Bristol Ticket Shop, more details here
