Ryusuke Hamaguchi and Eiko Ishibashi
Portugal’s Semibreve festival has announced the final additions to the lineup for its 2023 event.
The 13th edition of the festival, taking place in several locations across Braga in October, will newly host a special collaborative live show between Eiko Ishibashi and Oscar-winning director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, titled GIFT. Coming in the wake of their much-acclaimed collaboration on the film Drive My Car last year, GIFT consists of a silent film directed by Hamagushi, with Ishibashi providing a live soundtrack.
The festival will also present a new work called God Mode (ep.01) by the duo dmstfctn, who won this year’s incarnation of the festival’s ‘Edigma’ award, in addition to a selection of installations by Portuguese media art students.
Away from the music-based performances, Anja Laudval will lead workshops with local music conservatory students, and Maya Shenfield will hold public sessions on the theme of performance in electronic music. She and collaborator Pedro Maia will also appear on a panel discussion to discuss the ecosystem of electronic music festivals.
They join the previously announced likes of Beatrice Dillon, Emeralds, Kali Malone, Loraine James and Mumdance, among others, on the lineup for this year’s event.
Semibreve will take place from October 26 to 29, 2023. Find more information here.
