Scuba, the DJ and producer behind the Hotflush label, has issued a response after a backlash followed tweets he posted over the weekend suggesting he was in favour of eugenics theory.
His tweets on Saturday (September 2) begun suggesting a "solution to the world’s problems," explaining that "everyone on the planet takes a test simultaneously, adjusted to be of equal difficulty but appropriate to the region. Results are instantly judged by a central database. Every test is fitted with a localised self destructing device, which will be activated for the lowest 50% of performing papers only. Which happens, eliminating half the world’s population."
Concluding the bizarre series of tweets, he suggested that the remaining 50% of the world’s population would be provided with the tools "to clean up the mess around them".
After a number of people responded pointing out the similarity between his ideas and eugenics theory, Scuba has now issued an even more bizarre response suggesting that the tweets were a preview for an upcoming series of EPs to be released via his label.
Responding to a request for comment made by Crack, representatives for the producer said that the series of EPs will explore various dystopian scenarios, adding that he was tweeting "in a future context where AI controls the world".
Posting on Facebook today, Scuba said: "Like a lot of people I’ve spent a lot of time this year thinking about the paths we could be headed down over the next few decades, a lot of which seem to point to dystopian scenarios in society and the environment. I’ve also made some music inspired by those sorts of fears, some of which is coming out on Hotflush next month – watch this space."
