Sarah Neufeld, the prolific Montreal-based violin composer, is releasing her first solo album on August 19 via Constellation, and we’re pleased to be able to host a full stream of the record below:
Neufeld is a member of Arcade Fire, having been a part of a number of bands in the Montreal scene after moving there from her native Vancouver in the late 90s, namely Esmerine, Bell Orchestre and The Luyas. Hero Brother is the end result of her starting to develop solo works for the violin in 2011, subsequently working them up into full pieces and recording them in Berlin with fellow composer Nils Frahm, where they made the best use of some recording spots off the beaten track, including: "an abandoned geodesic dome, an underground parking garage, and the legendary Studio P4 orchestral recording hall at the broadcast complex of the former GDR" the album announcement tells us.
As well as the album, we’ve got the video for LP track ‘Forcelessness’, the first film made by the PRESSUR.ES organisation, who work specifically with choreography and scores and have collaborations with Neufeld’s Arcade Fire bandmate Richard Reed Parry and Colin Stetson planned. Have a watch below and head to Constellation’s site to pre-order the album:
