Sadiq Khan Responds To Petition To Save Fabric

London mayor issues statement urging all involved in dispute to find solution while saying "real action" needs to be taken

London mayor Sadiq Khan has issued a response to the online petition set up to save Fabric, saying that while he hopes all sides involved in the dispute can come to an agreement that protects Fabric’s future, he "does not have the power to intervene in licensing cases like the current situation with Fabric."

The petition has so far attracted almost 100,000 signatures from people supporting the club which is current closed while police and Islington Council reviews its license following the deaths of two 18-year-old men in recent months suspected to be drug-related.

“Clubbing needs to be safe. There have been two tragic deaths at Fabric over recent months and there are clearly issues that need addressing,” Khan has said in his latest statement on the matter. “Fabric, the Metropolitan Police and Islington will of course have to take real action to protect the safety of everyone who enjoys a night out at the club.”
