MODE is a new yearly series of events, which will take place in collaboration with various organisations around different London venues, and Ryuichi Sakamoto has been announced as the first guest curator.
The events will cover a mix of music, visual art, performance and film and will kick off on June 19 with a performance between Sakamoto and regular collaborator Alva Noto scheduled for June 20 at the Barbican Centre. His former Yellow Magic Orchestra band member Haruomi Hosono will play one of his first UK shows in the same space on June 23.
Elsewhere, Beatrice Dillon will share a bill with Goat and Kukangendai, while Boredoms drummer YoshimiO will team up with Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe and Susie Ibarra for a collaborative performance as Yunohana Variations. There will also be a screening of Coda, the documentary film looking at Sakamoto’s work as an artist and activist. That screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Sakamoto himself.
Further announcements for this year’s MODE programme, including another performance from Sakamoto, are set to follow in the coming weeks. It runs until July 8. For more information, head here.
