Russia Has Blocked SoundCloud

The country's government alleges that the platform was helping to spread "false information" about the war in Ukraine

Russia government’s has banned use of the music platform SoundCloud in the country.

Alleging that communications watchdog Roskomnadzor (RKN) had found "false information" about the "special military operation" in Ukraine being shared on the platform, the move was made by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office to restrict access to the site over the weekend. The government claimed that the site was spreading incorrect information about methods of warfare, such as, Reuters reports, "attacks on civilians, strikes on civilian infrastructure, and numerous civilian casualties at the hands of Russian soldiers."

SoundCloud is the latest platform to be shut down in Russia following its invasion of Ukraine in February of this year, with access to sites like YouTube, Facebook and Instagram having all also been restricted this year.
