Pretty en Rose is a 2013 film directed by Angélique Bosio, which documented the career of cult Paris fashion icon Fifi Chachnil.
Blake and Bosio had been acquainted for some time with the former first discovering Bosio’s work via her earlier film Lilk Your Idols. Bosio was also impressed by Blake’s work with former bands Buttonhead and Poino, as well as his part in other soundtracks, which saw her invite him to score Pretty en Rose, which aimed to look beyond Chachnil’s diva persona. That soundtrack is now set for a full release four years later, and is streaming in full above ahead of its release this Friday (November 24) via Horse Arm Records.
The soundtrack sees Blake looks to various French musical themes while also taking inspiration from the likes of Ennio Morricone and Angelo Badalamenti, as well as Angela Morley’s Watership Down score.
The record features a small cast of collaborators with Natalie Sharp, otherwise known as Lone Taxidermist, adding vocals, alongside Dearbhla Minogue of The Drink and The Wharves. Karen Gwyer features elsewhere on the soundtrack, via a spoken word appearance on one of the tracks.
