Rose Elinor Dougall is to release a free download EP featuring demo tracks, recorded as she prepares to release her second solo album, the follow-up to 2010’s Without Why. The three songs on the Distractions EP were recorded shortly after the release of that album, and feature Rose’s brother Tom (now singer and guitarist with new Quietus favourites Toy) and Ralegh Long (whose own music can be heard here.
Says Rose of the Distractions EP, "While I was recording some new demos this December, we came across this group of recordings and thought it was a waste to let them gather dust, so we gave them a bit of polish and made some little videos for you."
However she adds that the demos – excellent Mazzy Star-esque shoey pop – aren’t a pointer to the follow-up to Without Why. "I want to stress that this is not from the new record – since we recorded these songs, a whole new body of work has been formed that has suggested a different path to me from the one gestured towards here. But i really hope you enjoy it all the same…" And on that new record, Rose says "I have spent the last 12 months writing and re-writing and demoing and re-demoing it. Its been a very different, more in depth, detailed process than the preparation was for Without Why, but I think it has really been worth it." You can download Distractions here and watch videos made for the track here and here.
