Something that’s brought a graceful air to the Quietus’ HQ recently is the next instalment of RVNG Intl.’s ace FRKWYS series, We Know Each Other Somehow, a collaboration between Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe and Ariel Kalma. The former has been releasing his drone-based compositions under his own name, and, for more vocal-oriented pieces, as Lichens, as well as collaborating with Om and Nurse With Wound, while the latter has been on a four decades-long synth journey, with RVNG putting out an archival collection of his work, An Evolutionary Music, last year (read our interview with Kalma about that album here).
We Know Each Other Somehow was recorded in Main Arm, near Mullimbimby on Australia’s remote east coast, where Kalma has a studio, and lays field recordings from the local area – birdsong and the sound of rivers and streams among others – over its six ambient drone pieces. As well as the album, RVNG will also be putting out Sunshine Soup, a film by Misha Hollenbach and Johann Rashid tracing the recording, and, to mark the release date of March 30, the label have unveiled a track from the album, ‘Mille Voix’, and the film’s trailer; play them above and below and pre-order here.
