RM Hubbert has announced plans to release the songs recorded for but not included on the trilogy of "&" albums he’s been putting out over the last few years: First & Last, Thirteen Lost & Found and Breaks & Bone. Rather than a collection of near-misses, though, Ampersand Extras is a frequently-beautiful set, taking in instrumental sketches and collaborative works with Alasdair Roberts, Emma Pollock, Esperi and Alan Bissett, the novelist and playwright, originally excluded because they "ruptured the cohesion" of the original LPs. He’s teased the album with ‘Elliot’, a fleet-footed, echo-laced track featuring Luke Sutherland, the writer and Mogwai touring member, which you can listen to below.
As ever, Hubbert’s relentless touring schedule continues apace, with his next stop being The Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh next week – take a look at all the dates on his label Chemikal Underground’s website, where you’ll be able to get hold of the record on vinyl or download when it’s released on October 13.
