With a new round of Guinness World Records confirmed for 2017, Ringo Starr’s copy of The Beatles White Album has been recognised as the most expensive record ever sold at auction.
The copy was sold in December of last year at Julien’s Auction House for a record price of $790,000 or £522,438. As The Vinyl Factory reports, the record was previously held by an Elvis Presley record which sold for $305,000.
Starr’s copy of The White Album was a first edition one, with the category number ‘0000001’, and was kept in a vault by Starr for over 35 years. It has never been played. The identity of the record’s buyer is unknown.
