Richard Skelton is releasing a new album.
Titled These Charms May Be Sung Over A Wound, the nine-track album is Skelton’s first for the Phantom Limb label. It also marks his first vinyl release in over a decade. Just below, you can hear the record’s lead track, ‘For The Application Of Fire’.
These Charms May Be Sung Over A Wound sees Skelton abandoning the acoustic instrumentation of much of his past output. As with much of his material however, it was recorded in rural isolation, in the valleys of the Scottish Borders. The titles come from 19th century translations of Anglo-Saxon ‘leechdoms’ (ancient medicinal remedies).
These Charms May Be Sung Over A Wound will be Skelton’s fourth release of 2020, following on from LASTGLACIALMAXIMUM, The Oracle Bone and Imaginary Film Music (Volume Two). LASTGLACIALMAXIMUM recently featured in our round-up of the year’s best albums so far.
Phantom Limb will release These Charms May Be Sung Over A Wound on September 25, 2020.
