tQ contributor Richard Foster has penned a new book, titled The Punk Rock Birdwatching Club.
Billed as a successor to his 2022 title Flower Factory, this new book is once again set in the southern part of the Dutch Bollenstreek, an agro-industrial district of the Netherlands that, a synopsis said, “is always changing, but somehow manages to stay exactly the same”.
The Punk Rock Birdwatching Club presents eight short stories told by a diverse cast of voices which ranges from drug addicts to grandmothers, according to notes shared by publisher Ortac Press. Their musings focus on the major social changes that the Netherlands underwent during the mid-00s.
“We learn of the upheavals brought on by the Euro and the influx of Polish workers alongside the slow disappearance of the British and Irish worker-raver tribes post-Schengen, all set against a backdrop of rising costs, political murders and foreign wars,” the synopsis adds.
