This August, 20 specially commissioned artist performances and programmes will be broadcast from Outlandia – an artist treehouse studio in the shadow of Ben Nevis – via Resonance104.4fm as part of a week-long radio-arts project. The series, called Remote Performances, will see local residents get involved with artists London Fieldworks, and responding to the studio’s unique and remote location. Other artists involved include Johnny Brown, the man behind New Cross junk fetishists The Band Of Holy Joy, Glaswegian actor and Bum-Clocks vocalist Tam Dean Burn, and artist Sarah Kenchington, who builds mechanical instruments from discarded materials to create unique musical machines.
And in the run-up to the vote on Scottish independence, Remote Performances will reflect on ideas of remoteness, history, nature, tourism and heritage. As well as being broadcast on Resonance, there will be listening posts installed at the Edinburgh Art Festival and the Live Art Development Agency in Hackney Wick, East London. Daily blogposts with images and films of the performances will be hosted in collaboration with LADA. We’ll get full details of what will be involved in the live broadcasts, and the listening posts, later in the month. For more information see the Remote Performances website.
