LISTEN: Reel Syria 2012 Podcast

Listen to a podcast produced during Reel Syria in London & Edinburgh from 15th-18th March

Reel Syria 2012, a four day festival of Syrian films, theatre and music, ran in London and Edinburgh from March 15th-18th this year. Timed to coincide with a year since the uprising in Syria began, it also took place during a time period when the violence in the country was increasingly being reported in the worldwide media.

The festival included a performance conceived by the KLF’s Bill Drummond, under the banner of The 17, panel discussions, a Syrian film programme, book readings and a fundraising concert. While the festival was running, the organisers produced a podcast of the event, covering discussion around the context of Reel Syria, quotes from attendees, and the events that took place place. You can listen via the embed below.

The header photo is of a piece of graffiti by Bill Drummond, which reads "IMAGINE WAKING TOMORROW AND ALL MUSIC HAS DISAPPEARED". More graffiti and more on his project can be found at The 17’s website.

You can find lots more information about Reel Syria on their website.
