Rare Selda Bağcan Show Sees Release

The Turkish singer and political activist's set at last year's Le Guess Who? will be released through the festival's label next month; listen to a track from it below

Le Guess Who? Festival recently launched a record label arm as a means of sharing the various forms of music that they showcase at the festival and the latest release comes in the form of a limited edition vinyl featuring a live performance by legendary Turkish singer and political activist Selda Bağcan.

Performances by Selda are rare but she graced last year’s festival in Utrecht as one of the main guests following on from sets by St. Vincent and tUnE-yArDs, both of who are fans of her work, which has seen her document the political struggles of the Turkish working class for a number of decades, leading to her repeated imprisonment through the 1970s and 80s.

Speaking about last year’s show at Le Guess Who?, Selda said: “I had many, many gigs in Europe before, and I don’t know why but I felt different and happier than before.” The performance will see release through a one-time, limited edition vinyl run of 500 copies. It will be released on November 9 and can be pre-ordered here. For now, you can listen to one of the tracks from the set, ‘Adaletin Bu Mu Dünya? (Hey World! Is This Your Justice?)’ above.
