London duo Raime have cryptically announced the release of their debut album, which is set to arrive in the autumn via Blackest Ever Black. In a short post on the label’s site, they confirm that it’s set to be called Quarter Turns Over A Living Line, and that it will be released in double 12", CD and digital formats.
Since their self-titled debut 12", which inaugurated Kiran Sande’s now well-respected Blackest Ever Black label back in 2010, the duo have been exploring a bleak space that draws equally from post-punk, industrial, sound system culture and the dark side of UK dance music. They’ve frequently referenced jungle in interviews and mixes, for example, and its presence in their music is oblique but definitely there, within the rolling momentum and crisp precision of their rhythms. Their most recent release, last year’s Hennail EP, was their best so far, boding well for this full-length.
In related news, Blackest Ever Black’s second Before My Eyes night takes place on 16th August at The Waiting Room (formerly The Drop) in Stoke Newington. It features Sande DJing alongside Raime and Demdike Stare, all of whom will be using the basement space to play dark and obscure gems, dug from the crates.
