The track’s release marks her signing to Rough Trade Records, with its official digital release marking the first time that her music has been available on streaming services other than SoundCloud and YouTube, having built up a following via those platforms and a series of excellent live shows.
Princess Nokia is otherwise known as New Yorker Destiny Frasqueri, and she has been rapping and releasing tracks on YouTube and SoundCloud since high school, originally under the name of Wavy Spice before taking on the Princess Nokia moniker in 2013. Since then, she has released albums online under that name in the form of Metallic Butterfly, Honey Suckle and 1992. in
the following years.
"My live show is a lotta fun, I mean it’s a real vibe – something out of this world," Princess Nokia says. "I have been playing sold out tours since I released the album on my website, I’ve gotta say, I’m blessed. Every city has a crowd of young kids that love my music. I have girls that cry and throw roses in the front. Straight men who come with their friends and scream every lyric from every song. I show up for them and rip that mic so they leave feeling inspired and happy."
This summer will see her tour 1992 across Europe arriving in London on August 12 as part of Sunfall Festival.
