Prince Promo Most Expensive Tape Sold On Discogs

The rare promo has sold for just over $4,000

A rare promo release of material by Prince, The Versace Experience – Prelude 2 Gold, has topped the record for the most expensive cassette sold on Discogs.

As The Vinyl Factory reports, the tape of previously-unreleased material was given to attendees of the Versace shows at Paris Fashion Week in July 1995. The material featured was a promo tool for Prince’s then upcoming album The Gold Experience, but features otherwise unreleased edits and remixes of tracks from that album.

The tape had been on sale on Discogs since late August, and has now sold for $4,087, making it the most expensive tape sold on the online marketplace and the most expensive item sold last month. The tape record was previously held by Throbbing Gristle’s 26-volume box set which sold for $2,200 in October 2014.
