PREVIEW: Wysing Festival

This year's edition is titled Space-Time: The Multiverse

Last year tQHQ enjoyed a spectacular day of hoot in the rural Cambridgeshire countryside, courtesy of Wysing Arts Centre, some excellent live music and the incredible stamina of glitter-covered Mixmag staffers.

This year sees the festival host its sixth edition, which will unfold over the course of twelve hours a week on Saturday. Titled Space-Time: The Multiverse, it has been loosely curated around the themes of altered states and multiple identities. For the first time the main stage will be situated in the centre of Wysing’s gallery, "allowing for an immersive environment with surrounding video interventions", including those by visual artist Jesc Bunyard (see above).

The lineup sees an excellent cross section of music, including "music for telephathic amphibians" Orlando, Editions Mego’s Klara Lewis, synth duo Tomaga, and trans-Atlantic duo Rose Kallal & Mark O Pilkington. Following the release of her excellent new 12" on Where To Now this month, Beatrice Dillon will be putting in a mid-afternoon performance, while James Holden will be performing live alongside dancer Lucy Suggate. Manchester-based Julie Campbell, aka LoneLady, whose new album Hinterland was released on Warp Records earlier this year, will be headlining. Read John Doran’s ace interview with her for tQ here.

Elsewhere, Verity Susman, Sue Lynch, Artur Mvidal & Adrian Northover will be putting on a new performance of Pauline Oliveros’ 1977 Saxual Orientation, and The Marquee will host a covered stalls area showcasing experimental galleries, publishers and record labels. The Wire‘s Jen Allan will be DJing the night out until the coaches arrive to cart everyone home.

Space-Time: The Multiverse will take place from 12 noon till 12 midnight on 5th September. Ticket prices are £40 for a day pass, £50 for a day pass plus camping, and £60 for a day pass plus coach travel from London. Buy them here.
