Prague Event Synapse Knowledge to Host Lecture on Heavy Metal by tQ’s John Doran

Taking place at the MeetFactory venue, the talk will precede a concert by Chelsea Wolfe

Synapse Knowledge – an annual event run out of Prague venue MeetFactory that takes in live performances, talks, listening sessions and more – will host a lecture by tQ’s own John Doran later this month.

Taking place on June 23, Doran’s lecture, What Is This That Stands Before Me? Heavy Metal And Modernism, will focus on heavy metal music’s evolution, going back to the work of Black Sabbath in the 1970s, and tracing it to more recent output by bands such as Mayhem, Napalm Death and Sunn O))).

Doran will be joined by artist and filmmaker Sapphire Goss for the lecture, whose collages comprised of archival 8mm and VHS footage, will add visual accompaniment to his words. There is also a unique soundtrack that features music by Årabrot, Mark Pilkington and Ghost Writer.

The lecture was debuted in April of this year at Bristol’s Cube Microplex, as part of the festival Monochrome, and was also presented at Berlin’s Desertfest last month.

What Is This That Stands Before Me? Heavy Metal And Modernism will take place at MeetFactory ahead of a concert by Chelsea Wolfe at the venue, which also forms part of the Synapse Knowledge programme. Entry to the talk will be free for those who have tickets to the Wolfe gig, while those who aren’t attending the concert can get a ticket for the lecture via MeetFactory’s website.
