At the end of the week when Powell bunged an email from Steve Albini up on a billboard in East London, prompting much hoo hah, we’ve finally got the track that sparked it all off to play to you. ‘Insomniac’ uses a vocal sample from Albini introducing Big Black’s ‘L-Dopa’ live in London in 1987 and it bangs hard. Indeed, one would be surprised if Albini might not actually like it if only he gave it a listen. You can listen above, and watch the video that uses the words of Albini’s email in nifty graphic form. As Powell pointed out in our interview on Wednesday, the point of the video and billboard wasn’t to mock Albini, but to pay tribute both to his work and forthright views on music, as well as celebrating the groups that influenced both artists. ‘Insomniac’ is out on XL soon.
