The Pop Group have announced plans for a split release with Sleaford Mods. The post-punk icons will share a 7" single with the Nottingham duo through Freak R Us and Harbinger Sound, released on June 18. The record will feature ‘Nations’, a track from The Pop Group’s latest studio effort Citizen Zombie, alongside an alternate take on the track ‘Face To Faces’ by Sleaford Mods, currently set to appear on their new album. You can stream both tracks above.
In an interview with Noisey, The Pop Group said of Sleaford Mods: "Trained in urban warfare, Jason spits a thousand miles an hour against the cancer of politicians selling fake sincerity and kissing babies on their ghetto safaris." In the same piece, Sleaford Mods stated that "expecting The Pop Group to go away and age gracefully shouldn’t have even been on your cards. With the recent album they’ve danced around the cynics and sideswiped all expectations producing a classic record in the process."
The two groups are set to tour separately throughout Europe in May and June, culminating in an appearance at Glastonbury festival. Writing about Sleaford Mods’ last studio effort, 2014’s Divide And Exit, tQ’s Luke Turner called it a record that "screams and strains with the effort, the desire, the anger and sheer force of personality that’s gone into it".
