Pitchfork Launches Quarterly Print Zine

The first edition features an in-depth profile on Swedish artist Bladee

Pitchfork has launched a new print zine, which will be published quarterly.

The zine will be centred around the publication’s cover stories feature, which will also be posted online. The first of these is an in-depth profile on Swedish artist Bladee, written by US music journalist Meaghan Garvey. It’s available to purchase exclusively through New York’s Printed Matter, priced at $25.

The zine will be launched at Printed Matter on Tuesday, 4th March, where Garvey, the feature’s photographer Jason Nocito and Pitchfork editor Mano Sundaresan will discuss its making and the reasons for the launch of the new print zine.

Writing on Pitchfork, Sundaresan said: “Last summer, I joined Pitchfork as its new editor from the world of 2020s independent music blogging. It is an unglamorous world, but one I’m deeply fond of, all janky websites and Substack newsletters. It is where a lot of terrible, unedited writing is happening, but also where some of the most vital and urgent writing is happening. In the even smaller music-focused realm of this world, there are no traffic demands, no ‘house style’, just interviews, takes, and lists driven by passion and curiosity.

“One of my goals at Pitchfork has been to bring some of that bloggy energy to the site, highlighting the voices of critics, focusing on emerging subcultures, and restoring some of the site’s rawness. The way I see it, we’ve got such a big platform here; why not use it to get weird, spotlight genuinely unsung talent, and get really real about our taste?”

News of the zine follows on from a significant shake-up among Pitchfork’s editorial team early in 2024, which saw Condé Nast lay off a significant number of its workforce and restructure the publication to move it under fellow Condé Nast title GQ.
