Pink Floyd have released a new song, ‘Hey, Hey, Rise Up!’
Billed as the first original music from the group since 1994’s The Division Bell, the track has been released in support of Ukraine and features vocals from Andriy Khlyvnyuk of Ukrainian band Boombox. His vocals on the track are lifted from an Instagram post that saw him singing the patriotic Ukranian song ‘Oh, The Red Viburnum In The Meadow’ in Kyiv’s Sophia Square earlier this year. Proceeds from the single will go to the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund.
The band recorded the new song on March 30, according to a press release. The music video, which is directed by Mat Whitecross and can be watched above, was also made that same day. The lineup on the track includes David Gilmour and Nick Mason, alongside bassist Guy Pratt and keyboardist Nitin Sawhney. Speaking about the track, Gilmour said he hoped it would "receive wide support and publicity," adding that the band wanted to "express our support for Ukraine and in that way, show that most of the world thinks that it is totally wrong for a superpower to invade the independent democratic country that Ukraine has become."
