Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs have shared details of their first album in almost three years, Land Of Sleeper.
Out in February, the band’s fourth studio album includes contributions from Bonnacons Of Doom vocalist Kate Smith and folk singer Cath Tyler, as well as a choir that includes Hen Ogledd’s Richard Dawson and Sally Pilkington. Accompanying the album’s announcement, the group have shared lead track ‘Mr Medicine’ – a "song written to be a sonic arrow, purposefully succinct with no fat and no detours," guitarist and producer Sam Grant said – which you can listen to above.
Speaking about the album, which follows 2020’s Viscerals, vocalist and lyricist Matt Baty said: "Shouting about themes of existential dread comes very naturally to me, and I think because I’m aware of that in the past I’ve tried to rein that in a little. There [are] definitely moments on this album where I took my gloves off and surrendered to that urge."
Grant added: "I know from my perspective, I was trying to write some much heavier and darker music. But this was an aim more as a counterpoint to earlier material, as opposed to any sort of political or social commentary. I still very much see these heavier moments as musically euphoric, and emotionally cut loose or liberating."
The band are scheduled to head out on a tour of the UK and US around the album’s release across February, March and April. You can find the full list of dates via their website.
Rocket Recordings will release Land Of Sleeper on February 17, 2023.
