Piano Day is a concept first devised by Nils Frahm last year as an outlet for the producer to give away an album to fans for free. Around its release, professional and amateur musicians came together to celebrate the piano via a number of special events, and now it will take place again in 2017 on the 88th day of the year (signifying the number of keys on a standard piano), March 29.
As part of that, the team at FLOAT will coordinate an event at London’s Union Chapel featuring performances from Norwegian modern jazz musician Bugge Wesseltoft, East London MC and now 1-800 Dinosaur affiliate Trim who will perform alongside pianist Matthew Bourne, and Berlin-based percussionist Andrea Belfi, a past collaborator of Frahm’s, who will improvise alongside piano and effects duo Dead Light. "Why does the world need a Piano Day?," posits Nils Frahm of the event. "For many reasons. But mostly, because it doesn’t hurt to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, movers and most important, the listener."
