Bristol record shop, label and local scene institution Idle Hands is set to mark 50 releases later this month with a new two-track 12" from Bristol-based Livity Sound head honcho Peverelist.
Streaming exclusively above is one of the record’s two tracks: ‘Right Hand’. Centred around sparse percussion and bleep-driven, off-kilter melodies, it’s one of Peverelist’s most restrained offerings of late, and offsets the more party-ready, summery synths of accompanying cut ‘Left Hand’. You can get a taste of that track when the digital and vinyl release follows on September 28.
Peverelist was responsible for Idle Hands’ first release, another two-tracker, released back in 2009. Since then, the label has released records from a number of producers who’ve been based in Bristol past and present, such as Kowton, Shanti Celeste, Parris and Bruce.
Peverelist’s Punch Drunk label will also soon be teaming up with Pinch’s Tectonic to release a compilation of unreleased material from Bristol production duo Smith & Mighty. Ashley Road Sessions (1988-1994) comprises music produced by the pair before the release of their 1995 album Bass Is Maternal. You can pre-order that compilation, ahead of its November 9 release, here.
