Former Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy was arrested in Los Angeles on Saturday in an alleged DUI hit-and-run that led to the injury of another, as-yet-unnamed driver, report the Glendale News-Press.
Murphy reportedly struck a car in Glendale, a neighbouring city, at around 11:48 a.m., before fleeing the scene. An eyewitness then followed Murphy to Los Angeles and detained him until police arrived. Glendale officers described Murphy as "very confused", struggling to recall the day and time, though he insisted that he had not drunk any alcohol and had only taken prescription tablets for depression.
Police also found a small plastic bag, purportedly containing methamphetamine, in the back of their patrol car, which they believe Murphy had tried to discard. He was consequently arrested on suspicion of causing injuries while driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, felony hit-and-run and possessing methamphetamine and remains in custody with a $500,000 bail.
Murphy recently announced his mammoth U.S. and European Mr. Moonlight Tour, set to feature solely Bauhaus material, which is due to begin in Texas next month.
