Psychological Strategy Board debut with a new album for Front & Follow’s next release, which you can stream in full now just below following its release last Friday.
The album, entitled Penny Slinger: Out Of The Shadows, is the soundtrack to director Richard Kovitch’s film about the untold story of British artist Penny Slinger and the traumatic events that led to the creation of her 1977 artwork ‘An Exorcism’.
In producing the album, the duo played, recorded and manipulated live performances, using an array of synths and other equipment, to create various unsettling soundscapes inspired by Slinger’s work.
Maybury of the duo says there is no definitive version of the soundtrack. "There are cassette masters, vinyl masters, digital masters. There are different track sequences on different formats and sound not present on the released version. There is an almost two-hour film mix from Zoe Rixon who edited our work into the rhythm of the visual. There is the sound that Paul and I made together. That Paul tweaked. That I gave titles to. At the service of Richard’s directorial vision. Of Penny’s unique mind’s eye. And Jane Arden’s unnerving soul. And Peter Whitehead’s labyrinth mythology. For Paul [Snowdon] and I this is a Time Machine – a portal back to a different life. I no longer understand it and struggle to see my place in any of it."
The soundtrack for Penny Slinger: Out Of The Shadows is out now and can be purchased here.
