Pavement’s Bob Nastanovich has donated his own RIAA gold disc to an auction to support Margate music venue WhereElse.
The gold disc was given to Nastanovich to mark over 500,000 units of Pavement’s 1999 cult hit ‘Harness Your Hopes’ being sold in the US. It’s one of just seven gold discs produced, and Nastanovich’s item is the only Pavement gold record ever made available for public sale. It’s currently going for an auction price of just over £4,000 on eBay.
The gold disc is being auctioned as part of a wider fundraising effort to secure the future of the 150-capacity WhereElse in Margate. Nastanovich has been a regular visitor of Margate since 2016 and first attended the venue shortly after it opened in 2018.
“I greatly appreciate the venue’s remarkable enthusiasm for Pavement, and I’ve had a great time DJing and watching live music at WhereElse,” said Nastanovich. “I feel like it’s an essential element of a great scene, and its demise would diminish my enjoyment of my frequent visits there. I am keenly aware of the value of a great music venue to any scene, and WhereElse is one of my favourite spots worldwide.”
WhereElse founder Sammy Clarke said: “I just wanted to see if Pavement would sign one of their LPs so we could raffle it off, and Bob turns around and says, ‘Take the gold disc!'”
Nastanovich added: “As of now, the other six gold records are being kept by their recipients, so this is likely not only the first, but the only Pavement gold record that will ever be offered to the public. Join me in helping WhereElse keep its head above water. For what it’s worth, I autographed the back.”
Formerly known as Elsewhere, WhereElse has been a vital part of Margate’s music scene since 2018, hosting more than 140 events in 2025 alone. The venue has hosted early shows from acts such as Squid, English Teacher and Black Country, New Road.
The auction closes at 10am GMT on Monday 9 February. Browse the eBay listing here.
