On November 17, Memphis Industries will be releasing a fine new collaboration from Paul Smith and Peter Brewis, the frontmen of Maxïmo Park and Field Music respectively. Titled Frozen By Sight, it stems from a commission they were given for last year’s Festival Of The North East and sees them taking a literary bent, with Smith’s travel writing and a hat tip to the poet Frank O’Hara being the album’s driving force, set to Brewis’ chamber orchestra arrangements. Both coalesce wonderfully on the first track they’re taking from the record, ‘Barcelona (At Eye Level)’, exemplifying the place-specific flavour of the album, which journeys from the pair’s native North East England all the way to the beaches of Los Angeles. Says Brewis of the album: "We wanted to touch on a point somewhere between composition, songwriting and improvisation, but we also wanted to keep a sense of humour and a sense of the everyday." Pre-order over at the label’s website.
