Patti Smith and Soundwalk Collective have shared details of their third album together, Peradam.
The album is the final instalment in the Perfect Vision trilogy of albums that the two acts launched last year with The Peyote Dance. Another album, Mummer Love, followed later in 2019. You can hear Peradam‘s title track above.
On Peradam, field recordings of the Himalayan winds are combined with Smith’s vocals. The record is inspired by French writer René Daumal’s Mount Analogue: A Novel Of Symbolically Authentic Non-Euclidean Adventures In Mountain Climbing, which sees him introduce the idea of the ‘peradam’ – a crystalline stone holding deep truths that is only revealed to those who were on a sincere spiritual path.
Smith and Soundwalk Collective’s Stephan Crasneanscki and Simone Merli travelled to Nanda Devi, Rishikesh, Varanasi and the Kingdom of Lo (Upper Mustang) in the Himalayas ahead of the writing of the album.
Peradam features guest contributions from Charlotte Gainsbourg, Anoushka Shankar and Tenzin Choegal.
Bella Union will release Peradam on September 4, 2020.
