Dark Entries has shared the first preview of an upcoming collection of previously unreleased material by late producer Patrick Cowley.
‘Spiked Punch’ plays on Herbie Hancock’s 1973 track ‘Chameleon’, and was recorded sometime between 1975 and 1977, as with all of the other tracks that feature on the forthcoming Some Funkettes. You can listen to the track above.
Some Funkettes takes in eight tracks in total, including covers of Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’, The Temptations’ ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’ and People’s Choice’s ‘Do It Anyway You Wanna’. It’s the latest addition to a series of Cowley releases on Dark Entries over the last seven years, and will be released on what would have been Cowley’s 70th birthday.
The release has been made possible with help from Patrick’s brother Jim and his former studiomate Maurice Tani. All songs were mastered for vinyl by George Horn, while the sleeve consists of a collage designed in 1975 by Cowley’s former roommate Francesca Rosa that was found covering a reel to reel box.
Dark Entries will release Some Funkettes on October 19, 2020.
