The Adult Swim Single Series returns for its third year, offering 19 weeks of free music as artists throw tracks to the masses in weekly instalments throughout the summer. In the past the series has featured a veritable mêlée of musical donations from Oozing Wound to Miguel, and the 2015 roster looks to be no different with Chromatics, Shabazz Palaces, Swervedriver and Run the Jewels comprising just some of the list of releases for the coming weeks – and at no extra cost.
Already four weeks into the series, following freebies from D∆WN, Cherry Glazerr and Kitty, and next up to bat is musical polymath Owen Pallett, with his own offering ‘The Phone Call’.
In this latest track, Pallet is every bit “the aural equivalent of the vapour-dousing delivered by the micro-sprinklers watering the vertical shrubbery”, as he was when tQ caught his show at Sonar recently – a feeling that offers blissful respite from muggy, pollen-clogged, mid-summer London. ‘The Phone Call’ comes as a follow-up to his album In Conflict, which came out last year, and is chock-full of the same orchestral embellishments and that gosh darn gorgeous voice that soars gently ever higher like a lost balloon.
