With Matana Roberts and Kelly Jayne Jones set to collaborate on a tour next month as part of a new initiative called Outlands, the second set of guests for the gig series has now been announced, with Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Susie Ibarra and Boredoms’ Yoshimio all set to join forces in June.
Outlands is a new event series produced by a network of promoters of experimental music around the UK, with Supersonic Festival helming this tour, taking on the baton from promoters Qu Junktions who are behind Roberts and Jayne Jones’ tour.
Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Susie Ibarra and Yoshimio will perform together as Yunohana Variations for the first time in the UK for the tour. Though the three come from different musical backgrounds, Ibarra says that they all "enjoy crossing into various sonic territories", and they have already released a collaborative album via Thrill Jockey earlier this year, entitled Flowers Of Sulphur.
"Supersonic has had a longstanding relationship with multidisciplinary artist Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe," says Lisa Meyer of Supersonic Festival. "He has proven time and time again that anything he puts his hand to will be extraordinary. We have no doubt that this collaboration with such accomplished artists as Yoshimio and Susie will be nothing short of awe inspiring."
The tour kicks off at Supersonic Festival in Birmingham and will go on to a number of other UK venues through the rest of the month and into July. You can find the full list of dates here.
