Electronic Voice Phenomena – the concept tying these artists together – are noises resembling speech that are picked up by radio equipment, supposedly voices of paranormal origin.

The organisers describe it as such: “Featuring séances-of-the-absurd, backmasking and ghost-calls, the Electronic Voice Phenomena tour will be coming to a town near you with a roster of core works in text, technology and physical performance by Ross Sutherland, Hannah Silva, SJ Fowler & Outfit, plus a special guest performer at each venue.”

Outfit are basing their material on the 1990 trial of Judas Priest, in which the band were accused of using subliminal messages in the album Stained Class. Allegedly, this caused the attempted suicides of two young metal fans, but the suit was eventually dismissed.

In their specially-written piece, Outfit will “explore the hidden messages in music and the artform’s potential to manipulate, combining conventional instrumentation with field recordings, guitar feedback and fierce processing”.

Outfit’s debut full-length will be released later this year, followed by an EP for the material from this tour. Tickets for the performances are available here.
