Our Black Roots Campaign Launched

Electronic music platform aims to put black musicians' role in electronic music firmly into focus

Electronic music platform Watch The Hype has launched a campaign called ‘Our Black Roots’ which interviews a number of DJs and producers about the importance of black musicians in shaping electronic music.

The campaign is a reaction to increasingly whitewashed lineups in the electronic music sphere and takes in interviews with Hieroglyphic Being, Matthew Herbert, Fabio & Grooverider, Mr. G, Monika Kruse and Auntie Flo.

"The loss of touch with the true roots of dance music culture is historically repeating itself, but it is our job as influencers within the scene to ensure our community is aware of our black roots," says a press release accompanying the announcement. "What was once an offering of solidarity for the oppressed is now an industry heavily dominated by ‘white bro culture’."

You can find out more about the campaign, and the events organised in conjunction with it, here. Mr. G will deliver the first edition in the series on Feburary 27.
